Accessibility

Vasidesk wants everyone to be able to browse programs, apply and follow their application, including people who use assistive technology.

Settings you can change

Make the site easier for you to read and use. The settings stay on this device and browser.

These settings are saved in this browser only. Your browser's own zoom and its high-contrast or dark settings work here too.

Our standard

We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, which is the standard used for the Americans with Disabilities Act (Title II and Title III), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and, for federal sites, Section 508. Where it is practical we also follow the newer WCAG 2.2 criteria.

What is built in

  • Everything can be used with a keyboard alone, with a clear focus outline and a “Skip to main content” link on every page.
  • Pages have headings, landmarks, labelled form fields, error messages that are announced, and meaningful page titles, so screen readers can move around easily.
  • Text colors are checked against their backgrounds, and information is never shown by color alone.
  • Pages adapt to small screens and to zoom up to 400% without scrolling sideways in two directions, and respect your device's reduced motion, high contrast and dark settings.
  • Charts are always paired with the same numbers in text, and downloads include the data as tables.
  • Photos have text descriptions. Staff are asked to write them when they add a photo.

Known limitations

  • Documents that people upload (such as transcripts) are kept exactly as they were sent and may not be accessible.
  • PDF files the platform creates (letters, reports) have a title and language but are not fully tagged for screen readers. The same information is available on the page or in Excel, and we will gladly provide it in another format.
  • Embedded maps and calendars come from other companies and follow their accessibility.
